Five Reasons to Train with True North

It would be easy for our True North team to tell you why we think we’re great to train with, but we’re a bit biased!

So you don’t have to just take our word for it, we asked a few True North riders what they most appreciate about training with Caitlyn Shiels and Cody Wooten.

Here are the top five reasons to train with True North:

1.    To build your confidence.

2.    To train with someone who understands horses and people alike – and cares about the well-being of both. “My horse, Europa, is just turning seven, so she’s the youngest horse I’ve ever had and definitely the greenest horse I’ve ever had. Caitlyn has helped me get used to riding a young horse and to know what I should and shouldn’t be doing. Caitlyn’s really good at working with young horses. She doesn’t get flustered with them, and she’s very patient and understanding. You’re going to make a lot of mistakes with a young horse and also as an amateur, so it’s been really good to learn through Caitlyn how to bring a young one along.” – Jennifer Betts

3.    To find barn mates and trainers that feel like family.  “I look at Caitlyn like a mentor, trainer, teacher, and basically like a big sister. She looks at me like a little sister. We respect one another, and I look up to her. She helps me with things outside of riding as well, and I know I can go to her when I have any problems at all.” – Marisa Malevitis

4.    To work with someone who understands your busy life. “I’m an amateur with a career, and Caitlyn has been one of the most accommodating and understanding trainers that I’ve ever had. She always understands that there’s a lot going on in our lives, and that we’re just trying to have fun and enjoy it.

“She and Cody make it easier for me to come out and ride. Even when I’m really busy and have a lot going on, they accommodate my schedule and make sure the horses are really well taken care of if I can’t be there. Caitlyn’s very communicative, and it’s just a very customer-centric model. I don’t think that’s very common in the horse world – to put the horses first, to make sure that the riders are comfortable and confident, and to accommodate the riders’ needs. With Caitlyn, you just feel like you’re really supported in whatever decisions you make.” – Jennifer Betts

5.    To get results! “I hadn’t showed in ‘real’ jumpers in about seven and a half years. By the end of [the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival], Europa was champion in the last week that we showed!” – Jennifer Betts
